Demeclocycline treats several different types of bacterial infections. Do not take this medicine with food, especially dairy products (milk, yogurt, cheese). Take with a full glass of water.

Demeclocycline Overview

Demeclocycline is a prescription medication used to treat infections caused by bacteria, including respiratory tract infections (such as pneumonia), and infections of the skin, acne, genital, and urinary systems. Demeclocycline belongs to a group of drugs called tetracycline antibiotics. These help to stop the growth and spread of bacteria in the body. 

This medication comes in an oral (by mouth) tablet form and is usually taken 2 to 4 times a day, on an empty stomach with a full glass of water. Demeclocycline should be taken at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals.

Common side effects of demeclocycline include diarrhea, nausea, and headache.

Demeclocycline can also cause dizziness. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how demeclocycline affects you.
